Playing the Lottery Online

If you want to play the lottery, you have many options. Earlier, you were limited by the state that you lived in. This meant that the games you could play and the prizes you could win were limited, too. But thanks to technology, you no longer have to be in a certain state to play the lottery. Thanks to the internet, you can play on your phone or tablet, and get results immediately. However, you must understand that top lottery sites only offer the most popular lotteries.

Most states, including New Hampshire, have implemented online lottery games through a legislative process. In these instances, the legislature has added formal language, usually a clause that says “including sales over the internet.” This prevents any future administration from challenging the legality of online games. Washington D.C. and Rhode Island, on the other hand, have skipped the legislative process and instead decided that the existing laws provide enough leeway to include online games. There are currently five states without lottery offerings.

Historically, lotteries date back to the 16th century. The first known lottery was held in Italy. King Francis I of France discovered the lottery and decided to create a lottery in his own kingdom. His goal was to raise money for public works, such as fortifications. His first lottery, known as the Loterie Royale, was held in 1539. This first lottery was a disaster, though, and the social classes opposed it. Ultimately, lotteries in France were banned for two centuries, although they were tolerated in some states.

New Hampshire launched a lottery in 1964. This lottery features several draw games, including Mega Millions and Powerball, and its profits go to education and other public services. While there are many lottery games in New Hampshire, the State of Delaware launched its own lottery in 1974, and the proceeds from its six draw games benefit the state’s public employee pension systems. As for New Mexico, the lottery in the state has expanded in recent years, offering five draw games and instant win games.
